Welcome to Ski Season 2016 - 2017!

Greetings Big White Ski Club families,

Yes it’s September and time to think about the new ski season. Dry land training is starting this week and before you know it the snow will be here too!

Last year we experienced a great season in so many ways, outstanding ski conditions all season (best snow in BC), our club continued to have outstanding results during the race season, our intake of new U12 families brought a new energetic dynamic to the club and our Blazer program, as usual, was a great success.

2016/2017 promises to be a really fun year for the Big White Ski Club with some new events being planned.

InterContinental Cup – January 21 & 22
Watch for the inaugural InterContinental Cup with Big White Ski Club and Big White Ski resort hosting a fun race series together featuring our athletes (from all age categories) going head to head with ski teams from New Zealand and Australia. While being competitive in nature, we are really looking for our athletes to have fun and meet new friends from these other countries. Trevor will be providing the details as the date gets closer. We are going to be having more days that are similar in nature to our Family Fun Day, allowing our younger athletes to take on slalom courses, have their speed measured in the speed trap while giving them a chance to beat their parents and siblings.

Social Events
The plan is for the Club to grow our community so there will be more social get togethers at the Club cabin throughout the season – a real opportunity to meet other members of the club and to enjoy some après ski time together.

U14 Provincial Races – Big White Resort – March 17 -19
We have been awarded to host the U14 Provincial races! Congratulations and thanks go to Trevor for all of his hard work getting the bid completed. Trevor worked very closely with Big White Ski resort to get enough hill space for us to host this prestigious event. We will be speaking in greater detail about this event as we progress towards the season.

No this isn’t the time to stop reading and switch back to TSN! We are starting to fill many of our volunteer positions with some great people who bring a lot of energy and new ideas for the club. We are looking for a few more roles to be filled and will be circulating a list in the very near future. Getting involved with club in any volunteer position not only helps the club and our athletes out, it gives you a chance to meet new people and learn more about the club and all of our activities and it is actually fun!

Ski Swap 2016 – October 21 & 22
This is an “all hands on deck” event for every parent and our older athletes. This is one of our larger fundraisers of the season, beyond that it has become a “community service” event where many Okanagan families come to outfit their families for the coming ski season. The Ski Swap is being held on Saturday October 22 with Friday October 21 being our “set up” day. When you take a look at it, we take a large empty room and turn it into a massive retail outlet in less than 24 hours. What a team!! Again, volunteer positions and requirements will be sent out in the very near future.

This is going to be an outstanding season and I feel the club has added some real fun events for the athletes and for us parents too and I look forward to seeing you all real soon. If you have any questions or would like more details on how you can become involved with the club please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any other member of our Board.

Stay tuned for more details and continued communication from the club.
