Happy New Year and Welcome 2017

Wow where has the time gone? It feels like just yesterday we were planning for the Ski Swap back in October and now here we are fully into another epic ski season. Things are getting busy for the entire Big White Ski Club as our Blazer program is ready to kick into high gear. The U16 team is off to Sun Peaks this week for their first race series of the season. Our U12 and 14 teams have been training hard and look forward to their first races of the season fast approaching.

The inaugural Inter Continental Cup race is taking place in just a few weeks. It will give our younger athletes a chance to ski an actual race course for possibly the first time but more importantly, it will give all of us a chance to meet athletes and parents from Australia and New Zealand. This will be a great opportunity for you to volunteer at a club event. For those of you who may want to get involved and are not sure how to, this is your chance. We need course workers (slipping the race run), gate judges, bib collectors, etc… No skill required as we have many qualified people that will gladly assist you in any position you may want to volunteer for, remember it’s a great way to watch your kids have fun! A volunteer sign up link will be sent out soon.

Speaking of volunteering… we have been awarded one of the most prestigious races in BC, the U14 Provincial Championship races in March. This is quite an honor for our club and for the Big White Ski Resort. There will be 200 athletes for this race weekend and will need volunteers to help us put on the best race these athletes and parents have ever been to. We will need over 100 volunteers to make this event run as smoothly as it can. If you aren’t sure what a position entails please feel free to contact Head Coach Trevor or any of the Board members for further details.

Stay tuned for details on a few club socials at the club cabin. It’s a great way to meet some new people.

On behalf of the Big White Ski Club I would like to wish everyone all the best in 2017. May this year bring you and your family health, prosperity and much happiness and of course many centimeters of Okanagan Champagne powder.
