Big White Ski Club Cancels 2020 Ski Swap

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Big White Ski Club Cancels 2020 Ski Swap

Kelowna, BC - The Big White Ski Club (BWSC) has announced they are cancelling the annual Ski, Board & Sport SWAP. The SWAP was to be held Friday, October 23rd and Saturday, October 24th, 2020, at the New Life Church located at 2041 Harvey Avenue (behind MEC).

The Ski, Board & Sport SWAP provides an in-person venue for locals to buy and sell quality pre- owned sports equipment, for both kids and adults, combined with a wide assortment of new clothing, equipment and accessories from several retailers. This year’s event would have been the 50th Annual SWAP for the club.

This was a difficult decision to cancel our 50th Annual Ski, Board & Sport SWAP, but Covid-19 restrictions on group sizes and safety protocols would make it impossible to operate our largest fundraiser of the year. This will have a significant impact on our club’s finances, which helps support close to 150 athletes each season. This event has become a go-to event for many locals and we hope to be back next year to continue to support our community and our dedicated regulars who come every year, supporting our club.” says club President, Dave Willoughby.

Funds raised through the annual ski swap are utilized to help support the Big White Ski Club, a non-profit organization, that for over 60 years has provided world-class alpine and ski cross training. The club has taken pride in developing strong skiers, athletes and even future National Team and Olympians, through specialized training programs. The BWSC’s goal is to provide high quality and affordable ski racing development programs for children aged 5 to 16 years, where members can develop a skiing ability to each individual’s highest potential, in a fun and safe club environment.
