Big White Ski Resort was buzzing this past weekend with the Teck Ski Cross BC Provincials, hosted by Big White Ski Club! Nearly 140 Ski Cross racers descended on Big White Ski Resort’s Telus Park Ski Cross track.  This highly anticipated event included teams from Apex, Cypress, Vernon Ski Club, Revelstoke, Sun Peaks, Big White, Mt. Seymour, Grouse, Whistler, Lake Louise, Golden Kicking Horse, Rabbit Hill and Nakiska.  Participants even came as far as Alberta North FIS, Evolve Ski Cross Team, Blue Mountain in Ontario, Mt.Tremblant, Quebec and a few American friends from Skykomish Washington!  There were categories for U14 Women/Men, U16 Women/Men and FIS Women/Men.

A blue bird training day on Thursday kicked off the competition with some tight timing sessions on Friday on a great, flowy track.  Despite some challenging weather conditions on Saturday and Sunday – fog, high winds, you name it – the excitement was palpable. All athletes showed incredible resilience and determination, making every moment count on the slopes.

Host team, the Big White Ski Club, made a strong showing, with multiple podium finishes on the exceptional track. And not to forget the highlight of Saturday night – the banquet at the Happy Valley Day Lodge. With a buffet dinner, DJ, and special appearance by Big White's very own Olympic Silver and Gold Medalist, Kelsey Serwa, it was a night to remember.

Speaking of podium moments, there were plenty to celebrate. In the U14 Ladies category, Nikita Ciesla of Grouse Tyee claimed Gold on Saturday, with Haylee Laurell of Golden Kicking Horse Alpine Team taking Silver, and Cecily Gibbons of Whistler Mountain Ski Club earning Bronze. On Sunday, Big White’s own Alexandra Walker snagged Gold, while Tegan Anderson of Lake Louise took Silver, and Ava Dye of Sun Peaks clinched Bronze.

For the U14 Men, Eames Kim of Grouse Tyee took double Gold, while Alec Brayman of Rabbit Hill Ski Club secured double Silver. Jayden Cai of Cypress Ski Club grabbed Bronze on Saturday, and Tristan Yee of Grouse Tyee claimed it on Sunday.

In the U16 Ladies, on Saturday, it was a Grouse Tyee podium sweep with Chloe Anderson claiming Gold, Valerie Chan Silver, and Zoe Gold receiving Bronze. Sunday’s Gold went to Maina Battista from Mt. Tremblant, with Chloe Anderson taking Silver, and Zoe Gold securing her second Bronze medal of the weekend.

For the U16 Men, Wyatt Tondl of Revelstoke Ski Club took Saturday’s Gold, with Cory Kwan of Whistler Mountain Ski Club earning Silver, and Dominic Reid, also of Whistler Mountain Ski Club, taking Bronze. On Sunday, Trayle Porter of Sun Peaks claimed Gold, Harrison Duess of Grouse Tyee secured Silver, and Aidan Carreon from Big White Ski Club grabbed Bronze.

In the FIS Women's category, Kael Oberlander from the Okanagan Ski Team/Big White Ski Club claimed double Gold, with Camryn Steele, also from the Okanagan Ski Team/Vernon Ski Club, securing double Silver. Chloe Collingwood from the Okanagan Ski Team/Smithers Ski Club earned Bronze on Saturday, and Maelly Battista from Mt. Tremblant took it on Sunday.

For the FIS Men, Kaleb Barnum of Evolve took double Gold, Charlie Lang of Evolve secured double Silver, and Finley Cashin from Okanagan Ski Team/Big White Ski Club earned double Bronze.

Overall, it was an unforgettable weekend filled with thrilling competition and camaraderie. A huge thank you to all the participants, volunteers, coaches, and Big White Ski Resort who made it all possible.
