On the weekend of 2-3 April, Big White Ski Club's (BWSC) U12, U14, and U16 athletes participated in the Teck Okanagan Zone Finals held at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. There were 143 athletes from Alpine Yukon, Apex, Big White, Revelstoke, Sun Peaks, and Vernon.
For U12, Saturday was two races of GS, followed by two races of slalom on Sunday. U14 and U16 followed a similar format, racing together for combined times of two runs each for GS on Saturday and Slalom on Sunday.
The conditions varied throughout both days, with lots of snow on Saturday and some sunny periods on Sunday. It was not the typical spring skiing you’d expect in April! One of the forerunners for the GS course was BC’s own Reece Howden, the 2021 World Cup Ski Cross Crystal Globe winner who recently returned from the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games!
Overall, there were some great results from BWSC, lots of character building, and a great team experience. Big thanks to the Revelstoke Ski Club and their volunteers, as well as the BWSC parents who volunteered to help out this weekend. Additionally, a huge shoutout to coaches Trevor, Wade, Jen, Renee, Cassidy, and Toni for supporting our athletes for the (almost) last weekend or racing. April 7-10, the Whistler Mountain Ski Club is hosting its U14/U16 Spring Invitational. Then it’s on to prepping and training for next season!
